July is 1/3 Over Now...sigh

Teddy Bear Picnic Day is celebrated today. Are you celebrating properly? You need three things, a blanket (red and white checks is preferred, but any will do), a picnic lunch (last night’s left over fried chicken, peanut butter or bologna sandwiches, carrots, grapes, maybe watermelon. Any food that you LOVE will do) and at least one teddy bear. Oh, wait I forgot the fourth thing, a good time.
It takes a big person (company) to admit when they are wrong. On this day in 1985, Coca-Cola Company brought back the “original” formula of their most popular beverage after a failed attempt to ‘make it better’. The population agreed…”Welcome back, Classic Coke.”

If this man had not been born, many people in 60’s would have been bored. Fred Gwynne was born in 1926. Mr. Gwynne entertained for 38 years including on the small screen as Officer Muldoon in Car 54, Where Are You and as Herman Munster in The Munsters.  He can still be seen in many movies including The Boy Who Could Fly, On the Waterfront, My Cousin Vinny and Pet Sematary.

In 1925, the “Trial of the Century” (up until that time) began. John Scopes was accused of teaching evolution (which was against the law at that time in TN). During the “Monkey Trial”, William Jennings Bryan prosecuted on behalf of the State of Tennessee while Clarence Darrow defended Scopes. Want more info, the movie Inherit the Wind is loosely based on this event. Keep your eyes open for familiar faces.

In 1917, Don Herbert was born. This Minnesota native was smarter than the average bear. He created the persona Mr Wizard and dazzled audiences in the 1950’s & 1960’s. In the 1980’s & 1990’s Mr. Wizard was revived on Nickelodeon. Thanks Mr. Wizard I am sure you are still experimenting, somewhere.

1856 saw the birth of Nikola Tesla.  Father of patents, inventions and ideas in the 1800’s & 1900’s including The Tesla coin, turbine, oscillator, electric car, principle and Tesla’s Egg of Columbus. Also, Alternating Current (AC) induction motor, Rotating magnetic field, particle beam weapon, death ray, wireless technology, telegeodynamics and electrogravitics. Breathe. Boy, was he ever smart!

Adolphus Busch was born on this day in 1839. I credit Mr. Busch (and his union with the Anheuser family) with keeping weight on my dad. Budwiser was his meal of choice. Remember what Dad said…Eatin’s cheatin’. Personally, I don’t agree, but it reminds me of Dad’s humor.

I will do my best to review this comment and add it as soon as possible. Sorry, but if it is mean, crude, disgusting or irrelevant I can't post it. Remember we are supposed to be celebrating not dragging people down.
