Cheer Up Populous

World Population Day teams up with Cheer Up the Lonely Day today. With hope in my heart, I feel that the nearly 7 billion people on the planet Earth will be able to cheer up the uncounted lonely people who live among us. I am sure that at some point in time, each person has walked in his or her shoes in the state of loneliness. Since we all have experienced loneliness, on this day, do what you would have liked to have done for you. Call someone and have lunch, go to a movie, sit and chat. If to day isn’t good for you, I am sure that tomorrow or the next day will work fine as well.

TODAY IN HISTORY:
1979- America’s first space station, Skylab, returned to Earth smashing as little pieces onto Australia and the Indian Ocean.
1960-  Sing along with me to a song that hit the top of the charts on this day…
Alley Oop, oop, oop, oop-oop
There’s a man in the funny papers we all know
Alley Oop, oop, oop, oop-oop….
1804- Vice President Aaron Burr shot and killed former (and first) US Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, in a duel at the dueling grounds near Weehawken, NJ.

BIRTHDAYS:
1958-Mark Lester, actor best known (sadly) as that loveable orphan Oliver Twist in the 1968 movie musical production of Oliver!.And now claims to be the biological father of Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Katherine Jackson.
1953- Leon Spinks, Heavyweight Boxing Champion.
1931- Arthur Andrew Kelm, former teen idol known as Tab Hunter. I believe my aunt swooned more than once watching him in Damn Yankees, The Lawless, The Sea Chase, Birds Do It, and others. PS Barb, can you believe he is still alive!! Swoon Away!
1915- Actor Yul Brenner (born Yuliy Bryner in Russia) was known for his bald head, The King and I, The Ten Commandments and The Magnificent Seven, among more than 40 other roles, and that doesn’t even count Broadway or other plays.
1899- EB White, best known for children’s stories Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little but, did you know, he also wrote (with James Thurber) a book called, Is Sex Necessary? : Or Why You Feel the Way You Do. Now that you know that, will you still let your kids read Little or Web? Maybe you will reread them.
1767- 6th President of the United States, John Quincy Adams was born. Can you imagining being 11 years old watching your father stand up on a dais in front of the population of Philadelphia listening to the reading of The Declaration of Independence. Big problem, he was probably playing with paper boats in Massachusetts.
