Stamps to Flipper and everything in between...

England, 1840: The first adhesive postage stamp debuted. The Penny Black and its sister stamp the Two Pence Blue both featured the young Queen Victoria. Perforations came in 1854.
Independence, MO, 1841: The first wagon train on its way to California left today. Good luck and may the indians aim low and the wind be at your back.
London, England, 1851: The Great Exhibition opened in the Crystal Palace. 8 miles of tables with displays including kitchen appliances, false teeth, silks and farm machinery.
1883: Buffalo Bill Cody put on his first Wild West Show.
New York City, 1931: World’s tallest building, The Empire State Building, was dedicated today. 102 Stories and 1450 feet high (including the lightning rod) was built in just over one year and UNDER budget…$40milliion.
Golden Valley, MN, 1941: Cheeri-Oats, hit grocery store shelves. Due to a trade name dispute, General Mills changed the name to Cheerios, fitting its ‘o’ shape.
Hollywood, CA, 1941: Orson Welles, Hollywood’s enfant terrible, finally released his first feature film. Citizen Kane. Although reviews were good, it was a box office flop. Now it is considered AFI’s #1 Greatest Film.
USA, 1952: Thanks do Mr. George Lerner Mr. Potato Head was introduced to children everywhere….Just add a Potato!
USA, 1997: Flipper died at the age of 40. I have been unable to discern which “Flipper”, but, does it really matter? We loved ‘ya!
