Today, April 8, 2010, is the 97th day of the year, which means there are only 267 days left in the first year of the second decade of the 21st century. There aren’t any traditional holidays that we celebrate today, so the powers that be have come up with a couple. All is Ours Day and Draw a Picture of a Bird Day (which I have included here----->).
Historically speaking, April 8th is a relatively quite day. Well, for things I find interesting anyway. Hank Aaron slammed into the history books on today’s page by breaking Babe Ruth’s 714 home run record with his 715th. He was playing for the Atlanta Braves, 1974. He ended up hitting a total of 755HR's.And, for those interested in entertainment history, Twin Peaks premiered on this day in 1990. Man! Has it been 20 years already??? By the way, who did kill Laura Palmer?
As with everyday, there are many birth anniversaries to celebrate the oldest of which is Siddhartha Gautama (Buddah) who was born 563 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. So what year was that? They didn't know that the calendar was going to be overhauled and based on Him, I think I just confused myself!
In 1842, Elizabeth Bacon was born. When she was 22 she married George Custer. At the ripe old age of 34, she became a widow when he was killed at Little Big Horn.
Here are a few more: Actress Mary Pickford in 1892, she also co-founded United Artist Studios; Ice Skater Extroidinaire, Sonja Henie was born in 1912; In 1918-Betty Bloomer was born, she is known as a First Lady & founder of The Betty Ford Center; There were two well knowns born in 1928, Comedian Shecky Green and Actor John Gavin (Psycho), oh yeah, US Ambassador to Mexico from 6/ 1981 -6/ 1986; UN Secretary General Kofi Annan was born in 1938; John Havlicek from the Boston Celtics was born in 1940; Barbara Kingsolver Author of The Poisonwood Bible was born in 1955; In 1963 Baby Beatle and Singer in his own right, Julian Lennon was born; And my favorite Medium Patricia Arquette was born in 1968.
Happy Birthday everyone, where ever you may be!
