Today is
Don't Go To Work Unless it is Fun Day
& Tweed Day
HISTORY CLASS
- 1860 -- The Pony Express began delivering mail between St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. It only ran for 18months, but it established itself a reliable and fast way (10 days) to send a message across the country. It was soon disbanded when the transcontinental telegraph established itself.
- 1882 -- Jesse James was shot in the back and killed by one of his gang members, Bob Ford. With swiftness, brother Bob and Charley Ford were indicted, pled guilty and sentanced to hang in just one day! Within 2 hours, Governor Thomas T. Crittenden granted each their parden, leading to the speculation that Bob Ford was working on behalf of the government, as the thought of bringing James to trial seemed...impractical.
- 1936 -- Bruno Hauptmann was executed in the New Jersey State Prison's famous electric chair "Old Smokey". He was convicted of kidnapping Charles Augustus Lindbergh, Jr. "The Crime of the Century". Some still wonder if he really did it or if he was railroaded.
- 1996 -- The arrest of the long time terrorist "The Una-Bomber", Theodore Kaczynski is 'credited' with 16 bombings between 1978 - 1995. He was called the Una-Bomber because his targets were Universities and Airlines.
