SOME APRIL 14TH HISTORICAL EVENTS:


1775- The Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage was founded in Philadelphia.
1818- After twenty years of compilation Noah Webster published American Dictionary of the English Language. So, it is really his fault we spell theater differently than the British theatre.
1865- Ten days after dreaming of presidential assissination, Abraham Lincoln is shot at Fords Theater in Washington DC by John Wilkes Booth.
1912- Four days after leaving the port of Southampton, England, the RMS Titanic hits an iceberg. About 2 ½ hours later, she was fully sunk.
1918- Two American’s enter their first dogfight. They shot down two german two-seaters. By the end of May, one, Douglas Campbell had shot down 5 enemy aircraft making him the first american flying Ace. In WWI.
1935- Black Sunday. Millions of tons of dirt and dust were disturbed by high winds creating an end of the world feel with virtually no visiblity.
1969- Tie! Katharine Hepburn and Barbara Streisand both earn 3030 votes for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Hepburn for Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion in Winter and Streisand for Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.
